What is the Feast of the Assumption?
The Feast of the Assumption is one of the most important feast days of the year and a Holy Day of Obligation on the official Roman Catholic Church calendar. By tradition, the holy day is observed every August 15th. This year, the Feast of the Assumption occurs on Monday, August 15, 2022. Assumption Day commemorates the belief that when Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, died, her body was not subjected to the usual process of physical decay but was “assumed” into heaven and reunited there with her soul.
