Greetings De La Salle College community! My name is Natahlya Va’ai and I am thrilled to embark on this journey as a new Year 8 Teacher here at De La Salle College.
Rooted in the Catholic faith since birth, I have traversed through Catholic schools, nurturing a deep connection with my spiritual beliefs. My educational background spans Business Management, Diverse Learning Needs, and Indigenous Knowledge, where I’ve cultivated expertise over five years in the Education Sector. While my journey has taken me through various educational settings, including Secondary, Adult, and Tertiary teaching, it is the vibrant atmosphere of primary and secondary education that beckons me back.
Currently pursuing my Masters in Applied Indigenous Knowledge (Level 9) at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, my research delves into the exploration of taboos and fostering understanding of Neurodiversity within Pasifika cultures; a testament to my commitment to inclusive education.
- • Fun Fact! I am deeply immersed in the world of dance. As a proud member of ‘Halau Ka Waikahe Lani Malie o Aotearoa,’ also known as The Hula Journey, I find solace and joy in the art of Hawaiian Hula. I will be performing at the Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture in Hawai’i in June as a testament to our dedication and passion for cultural expression.
- • What is your favourite thing about working for De La Salle College so far – Reflecting on my brief tenure at De La Salle College, I have been profoundly moved by the opportunities for spiritual growth and reflection that the school nurtures; a sentiment that resonates deeply with my own religious values.
- • Name someone you admire and why: When asked about someone I admire, my thoughts instinctively turn to my grandfather, Vaovasamanaia Malolo Tuifeai Va’ai. His unwavering support and impactful presence throughout my upbringing, coupled with his altruistic endeavours to uplift families in Samoa, embody the values of compassion, resilience, and service that I strive to embody in my own life.
As I embark on this new chapter at De La Salle College, I am eager to collaborate with students, parents, and colleagues alike, fostering a nurturing and enriching educational environment that empowers young minds to flourish. Together, let us embrace the journey of learning, growth, and discovery.
